Thanks for the link Kerwat. I just read through that and until near the end it was very interesting. Then the troll came out, but whatever.

The gasket that blew in those tensioners had brown sealant. My money is on Ford going directly to the tensioners on this engine and inspecting the gasket. Well, that is if they find right side valve train problems.

Looking it over again with my loupe, I am also seeing bits of black material and some tan material. The black and tan bits are all pretty small - maybe .25mm square whereas the largest of the green material is probably 1mm square.

So they heard back from Ford. They found no metal in filter I just put on and has less than an hour of running. Uh, DUH! So they said to run it and monitor it. So I wonder if we find problems, will Ford reimburse for filters and oil samples. I would consider that troubleshooting for them, but I doubt they will buy it.

I think I need to sample it at about 1500 miles then inspect the filter at 3000 and sample again but skip the oil change until we hear back from the oil analysis. Unless of course I find bad metal in the filter, then, no need to sample.

Sound like a good plan?

Whale crap. Blackstone came back and the only thing they found out of the ordinary was high silicon. Their analysis of their analysis is that it's from sealer rather than dirt since wear metals were normal compared to their averages.

When I opened the filter with 1500 miles on it (that I sent for analysis) still showed what I consider excessive material. Since I have been looking at filters from their other V-10s, I don't consider it normal, but I will continue to monitor this closely. It also showed bits of sealant in it which doesn't surprise me. I still think that there is a problem waiting to happen and I only hope that it happens under warranty.
