ECU help please?!
I have a 351w from a 1995 F150 without a computer. I have a couple questions, will any computer from that year and engine/tranny work? Where do i get a computer that will work? Everywhere I call/ go asks for the old computer numbers which i dont have. Ugh very frustrating!

Hi, its an automatic with overdrive. Not sure on the exact model of F250 it came out of though. 2WD E4OD.
Ok here goes lol. I'm planning on putting said engine into a 1985 Thunderbird. So basically I just need the engine to run and transmission to shift. I'm trying to avoid switching to a carburated if its possible. I have the headers for the swap purchased. Changing the oil pan over to a Mustang configuration. Running bigger fuel line and new motor mounts are installed.

That T-bird probably has an AOD transmission. It is not computer controlled. Even if you get a truck computer for a 351W truck with a manual transmission it is not going to be plug-n-play into that T-bird. If the T-Bird uses a Mass Airflow (MAF) engine control (assume this car is a 5L?) system you may be able to get away using the same computer, but may need a custom tune to get it to work.

Just to clarify, you are using the original Tbird transmission? Using the E4OD that was originally married to that 351W would be quite an undertaking. Those things are huge!
The V8 will bolt to the 3.8 bellhousing, but be sure to use the correctly balanced flex plate. The application you want assuming an AOD would be out of a full size car with the 351W/AOD combination. Think there may be a few internal differences in an AOD from a 3.8 which could limit durability, but that can be taken care of when you rebuild the transmission, (likely sooner than later). Also, don't forget that TV cable and adjustment!
On the computer, use the MAF pieces like an A9L from a similar era Mustang. There are other part numbers and if you can find an archived copy of the old RJM site, the information was invaluable. (Too bad Ryan went AWOL).
