I have a 2016 Ford F-350 Lariat Crew Cab that came with the chrome running boards.
My question, is there any special technique to clean the built up grime from between the individual step pads? Does anybody make a one piece replacement pad?
A lot of dirt and grime get trapped under each pad. Very hard to keep clean.
I have the same OEM running boards on my truck. I take a very small brush and clean in between the pads. Sometimes I just take a rag and use my finger to clean between the rubber.
What I ended up doing to clean the grime/oxidation from my running boards was to remove each of the black tread steps, finding a bunch of dirt, salt, and general Yuck under each one. Tired chrome polish, polishing compound, and a good old Brillo Pad. The Brillo pad worked the best. Before I replaced the pads/tread steps I gave the chrome board two good coats of wax. Shined them right back up. In the future I will be paying closer attention to them and hopefully I will not have to remove the pads again.
Just an F.Y.I. if you break the tab(s) off them they are $30+ dollars EACH!
