2017 F450 Lariat. I need to remove the tailgate to insert a truck camper. Still want the bed camera functional to help load the camper into the bed. When I remove the tailgate and unplug the connectors the bed camera doesnt function properly. There is an image on the screen from the bed camera but it is messed up. Colors are sort of inverted, horizontal lines through the image and other issues make the image useless.
Is there some sort of tailgate eliminator kit or something I should be doing to still have the bed camera working with the tailgate removed?
Did you try plugging in the plugs that should have been in your glove box for removing the tailgate? I have no idea if it makes any difference or not, just guessing. Also, you could potentially buy an extra tailgate camera to mount on your camper and still retain the rear mounted backup camera.
Same question as stangman, have you installed the caps onto the chassis side connectors when you take the tailgate off? We always put those caps on and have no issues with the image from the other camera.
It seems it is an issue with the bed camera. I've used the bed camera previously but not recently. Didnt try it until after I removed the tailgate.
Reconnected the (2) tailgate plugs - camera and electrics. Bed camera still having issues.
As for the caps to install when the tailgate is removed I have the cap installed for the camera. None of the caps supplied with the truck fit the multipin connector.
I bought the truck used.
Plan to get it in to the dealer some time in the next couple weeks to get the bed camera de-bugged and fixed.
Some photos for illustration. (Note the tailgate camera images are a bit strange as the tailgate is not on the truck. Sitting on the deck with the connectors plugged in,)
360 camera image with tailgate connected as above
Image from bed camera with tailgate connected
Connectors for tailgate. The small one is the tailgate camera.
Connectors unplugged
Caps supplied with the truck for tailgate removal
Camera cap installed when tailgate removed
Large connector for tailgate next to the supplied cap in my fingers.
Miraculously the bed camera is working now with the tailgate removed?!?!?
Started the truck up Monday, put it in reverse, checked the bed camera - everything working fine.
Go figure....
