20" wheels ?

Gentlemen,

My Son is now driving my old 7.3 and he just loves the truck. He grew up in it, learned how to drive in it. Any way like most Kids his age he wants to get some 20" wheels and tires to put on. The problem we been having is finding wheels with the right offset. Can some one tell me what is the right offset for these trucks. Its a L99 f350 with a 4" lift.
I don't want to use spacers if at all possible.

Thanks

Gilbert

It all depends on how far he wants the tire to stick out, AKA "stance". Not really sure on the correct offset, but a 20x9 or 20x10 would probably be about right as far as looks and functionality go. If he wants the tires to stick out a lot, then he should go with a 20x12 or 20x14 wheel. What size tires is he gonna run? However, with only a 4 inch lift, a 20x12 or 20x14 will probably rub pretty bad on the inner fender or leaf springs. I ran a 16x10 and 315/75/16 on my truck when I had a 4" lift on it and they didn't rub at all. I'm only 20 and some of the trucks I've seen around me look ridiculous with stretched tires, tires with hardly any sidewall, and the tire sitting 8 inches outside of the fender. But then again I'm the minority of my age group and wouldn't run anything bigger than an 18" wheel.

Hope this helps

He's going to be limited by the front fender, rear of the tire. The newer trucks, those that have 20 as an option, have a different fender profile.

-12 is about perfect to clear 20x10 and not rub the front. The more you go then that you will just stick the tires out a bunch from the fender and starts to look very silly imo. I’m currently running -18 and it still looks good but liked my -12 rims I had previously, only a slight difference just depends on the look you prefer.

I just went through this with my '01 Excursion. Bought some take-off 2017 F-250 20" wheels and tires.

2001 Excursion used 7Jx16 wheels, ET6.3, 265/75-16 tires. Center bore 125mm, 8x170 bolt pattern, M14x2 studs.

2017 F-250 used 8Jx20 wheels, ET40, 275/65-20 tires. Center bore also 125mm, 8x70 bolt pattern, M14x1.5 studs

I purchased a set of 2" aluminum wheel spacers, secured to the hub using the Excursion lug nuts, and the spacer was designed with M14x1.5 studs so I used the F-250 lug nuts that came with the wheels.

I had to chamfer the corner of the fender to avoid rubbing up there, and I had to trim off a chunk of the factory mud flaps to avoid rubbing there as well.
