I have my glow plug relay hooked up to a push button. When I push the button sometimes the red light doesn't come on. Most times. I have to keep pushing the button on and off until the red light comes so I can hold it on in order for the glow plugs to warm up.
Has anybody addressed this problem or know what I need to do to fix it? Is it a bad relay?

What year truck do you have and what type of controller system do you have? The newer type that mounts behind the aircleaner or the older type with the glowplug relay on the pass side inner fender?
Can you tell when the plugs are glowing other than the light? Do you see any dash lights go dimmer when they are glowing than when they are not glowing? Some other verification other than that light?

Guy down at Napa suggested that I hook up a larger push button and wires because the amperage throughput may be the culprit. Right now I'm using my steering wheel horn button (with the horns disconnected) and something tells me that isn't allowing enough juice to get to the plugs. Sometimes the light will come on and then flicker off, so it does seem to be a connection with the power. Anyway, I need to hook a dedicated switch up first and then go from there.
Thanks for your reply!
By the way, its a 1986 F250.
