Put a manual button on glow plugs now my wait to start light won't go off. Can here relay click on when I push button and off when it is released truck starts great. 83 F350
Also when I took a test light put it on glow plug post on the relay had the ignition on no power to glow plugs had someone push the button had power let up no power so Im pretty sure glow plugs are not staying on.
The back terminal of the glow plug relay should have two large orange wires with lt. green or white stripes on them that are glow plug power. It should also have a blue fusible link that feeds a pink/black stripe wire. (The other end of the wire shows black/pink stripe so I am not sure which is right, other than the wire should be black and pink.)That is the wire that turns on the "Wait to Start' light. The other side of the bulb goes to ground.
Did you remove the purple wire completely?
The afterglow portion of the orginal controller could be turning the glow plugs on if you did not.
when i did my 90 i went from the white ground wire terminal through push button to a GOOD ground works good just turn key on press button for 5-10 sec crank & go.
It works great, just my wait to start light won't go off. But I don't think there is power to the glow plugs when the button is not pushed. Right now I won't have time till this weekend to dig into it anymore. But with help from you guys I am sure we will figure it out.
Shorthair the 83 system is way different than you 90 model system is.
Trucker41 there is another thing that could cause this.
If you have a bad ground under the dash the power could be going through the wait to start light circuit from the dash to the glow plugs to ground.
It would not take much current to light the light bulb.
