I have been using Waze on Sync 3.0 USB with iPhone X Waze app with 3 hours driving pulling my fiver over the weekend. Twice, the Sync screen froze. I was not realizing the movements are not moving and it kept saying 12 miles left for a while. Killed and re-launch iPhone Waze app did not help. Turning off radio and on didn't help. I then unplugged USB and replugged. Finally it works but had to re-type destination address again.
My thoughts? Use either iPhone Waze app on iPhone without using Sync connection. Or use Ford Navigator as it is very reliable (without good traffic info unfortunately).
Maybe few months later, the Waze on Sync bugs will be worked out with Sync and app updates on phone. Then I will try again.

For full disclosure, i`m an Apple user and using Waze through SYNC 3 was a horrible experience for me and the factory navigation and Apple maps blows Waze out of the water.......no comparison.

another month before I get my new F350 , but can I get help with two questions .
1. I never did update my IOS on my iPhone on my last F350 because the Apple play worked and people were saying the updated IOS version was not compatible with Sync 3.
Has this been addressed and fixed? Is it necessary for me to update now?2. When working Waze on the Sync 3 screen now,can music with Sirius or radio still work at the same time.

I'm running the latest iOS on my iPhone-X - no issues with Sync, Sync apps or Car Play.
Audio:As stated below, I didn't think to run through the full "audio gambit", however podcasts worked just fine.
Road Trip Report:
It took me a while to get everything working with Sync 3 this past weekend. Initially I turned Car Play off, and Sync Apps on, while running Waze on my iPhone (latest iOS). This resulted in the Sync Apps section, of the head unit becoming non-responsive. Other audio worked, but Waze and other Ford apps would not. I was only on a short stop before a longer jaunt to Asheville NC so I figured no big deal.
After restarting truck, the Ford apps were still non-responsive. I restarted the truck a couple of times and still no love. I eventually had to perform a full reset on the head unit, which cleared the problem. Turned off Car Play, turned on Sync Apps and Waze was happy this time. Used Waze on the round trip from Charlotte to Asheville with no issues. I didn't run through the full audio gambit, however I was playing pod casts alongside Waze without a hiccup.

I used Waze once. It worked okay, and I did not experience any unusual behavior. I did, however, notice my phone (7 w/latest iOS) was very warm/almost hot after the trip. I'll stick with Ford OEM navi; it does not use data, and Sirius traffic is tolerable.

Google maps works without a hitch via my Pixel/Android Auto/Sync 3. No bugs or lag that I’ve noticed. I’ve never used Waze so am wondering what all the buzz is about. What does Waze do for me that I can’t get with Google maps?

Tried this. yes waze works. but is painfully slow. your phone screen must stay on - if you lock it or go to another app it kills/freezes waze until you return to the waze screen on your phone.
If I am going to leave my screen on - might as well just use the app and have access to carplay, faster and easier to use than the applink UI

Waze supports community updates, realtime, for updates on your mapped route. For example, someone may report police, car stopped, wreck, heavy traffic, etc. at a specific location. I don't use it around town, but the highway updates are valuable. Also, before I had the Ford nav, Waze was also super useful (to me) as it shows the posted speed limit and your current speed..
