Well so much for the dieselfilter order or the XDP order neither place had them on hand. So I went with dieselorings.com little more at $131.00 but I’m good with that. I’ve used them before with my 7.3 good guys and quick shipping.
Got these in the mail today. Ordered on Friday and received today now that’s fast. Hope to get them installed on Tuesday. Also going to change the relay for the pump 180k miles I think it’s time.
Wanted to do a quick “How to replace your fuel pump”
Tools needed-
3/8” ratchet sockets- 1/4” 5/16” 1/2” 36mm 5/16-3/8 fuel line disconnect tool 6mm allen wrench
Drain pan carb cleaner oring lube
Locate fuel pump on driverside frame rail below driverside door. Remove drain plug and catch fuel in drain pan.
Next disconnect fuel lines and electrical pigtails. Disconnect tool is used on all lines going to pump. 5/16” for return lines “top” - 3/8” for pressure lines “bottom”
Now remove the three 13mm nuts on outside of frame rail and lift over driveline if you have a 4x4.
Now take it to a work table and remove the fuel filter. There is no need to remove the fuel filter other than to clean the bowl but while it’s out you may as well clean and inspect the bowl for debris.
Remove the pump bolts. This requires the 5/16” socket.
Now is a good time to remove the HCFM front cover if you choose to and clean the inside and check for debris or obstructions.
Now we can install the pump and filter.
Take note of the top of the fuel bowl there is a catch for the fuel filter to orient itself when installed to keep the small air purge hole to the top of the housing. Some have said that aftermarket filters do not have this hole and do not release the air from the filter. I can’t say for sure because I only use OEM filters.
Once the filter is done it’s time to install it back on the truck. After the install you will need to prime the pump by turning the key to the run position with out starting. I cycled the key six times and loosened the drain plug slightly to make sure there was fuel. Had fuel so I lite the fire.
Only thing I did not have is a fuel pressure gauge installed before or after so I don’t know if it increased the pressure or not.
