Looking to get some insight from others. Today I had conducted a project at a customers home putting down river rock. I went to get 1 yard at the nursery and as the operator was putting the rock in the bed of the truck. The back window cracked and shattered. I do have a bed liner in vehicle that was provided by ford as a "freebe" if I purchased the truck. I did not in anyway over load the vehicle. I put a standard size amount of stone in the back of the truck. Truck was still pretty level from front to back. I love my F250 supeduty and hate that this happen cause I swear by Ford. I am hoping that the dealership will honor this and warranty the problem.
Does anyone believe that it could be from the "new and improved" aluminum body? I am thinking, when the rock got dumped in the body contorted and resulted in the glass breaking.
Does anyone know of this happening to others?! HELP!!
Since the bed is only connected to the cab via the frame (that’s supposed to be much stiffer than 2016), that means the frame would have to twist enough to stress the cab enough to break the glass. That seems highly unlikely. And if the load was not dropped in suddenly (off to one side for example) I can’t even go with highly unlikely. If the load was added in a smooth manner and was centered, I’d look for another cause. That’s a bummer either way.....
I’d say it’s much much MJCH more likely that an unseen and unheard rock flipped up and took our your glas. And I’d seriously doubt you’d ever get the dealer to warranty it.
Just replaced mine, due to our 5th wheel slider hitch not locking properly into manuever mode.... Safelight had a new OEM glass (Privacy, Power window, defrost) installed in two days for $50.
A rock must have hit the glass and shattered it. Just like those pocket style spring loaded glass punch. If a small point hits the glass just right it will shatter into tiny little pieces...
A buddy of mine bought a 2017 in December of 2016. He had it for less 2 months and was driving down the road one day and the back glass shattered out of no where. He took it back to the dealership and after getting into it with the Ford service manager he finaly got Ford to take care of it for him. Seems to me that if they took care of it then they are at least admitting that there could be a problem .
Ford had this problem in their F-150 line,I parked mine and got out and I thought someone had shot at me with a shotgun, took a few minutes to realize back window had shattered ,took it to Ford dealer told shop foreman what happened he took picture sent to Ford they said wouldn't cover it,before I could say anything he said just wait I'm not done yet, he got some one else in the dealership and they were gone a few minutes and he came back and said Ford is going to replace it. When rear window came in and I went back to have it replaced the first thing service manager told me was he had a couple more customers come in with rear window shattered and Ford was replacing them also. It's worth a try I would try getting them to replace it first.
I had 6,000 lbs of 3/4" rock dumped into my bed on two different occasions. Though mine is a 450, the frame and body are exactly the same. No issues either time. Other than my back after shoveling it out...
