Anyone have a "current" front coil spring list for the F250 SDs (2017 is my year, but maybe the 18 are same?). Reason I ask is I'm about to purchase a 2017 F250 with snow plow package, and I'd actually like to drop down a bit in the spring rate by swapping to a slightly softer spring. But I want to know where the "current" spring rate is at, so I have an idea of what to choose from the OEM list of all the springs. I found a thread here on FTE from many years ago, but they were the front leaf springs. So I'm looking for a "current" coil spring rate chart for the 2017 and 2018 models.
You must have missed all the other threads on this forum and others. There are a lot.
The Ford coils havent changed since they were introduced on 4x4 Super Duty’s in 2005. They are the same for F250 through F550.
Assuming a diesel, the Plow Prep package gives you the highest rate coil for a F250/F350 of 6,000 lbs (C coils) Next step down is the HD Suspension/Camper Package at 5,600 lbs (D coils). Next step down is 5,200 lbs (E coils).
Personally, I would never go downward with Ford coils. These trucks have very heavy front ends and quickly start to feel mushy when the coil rate is lessened. If you are concerned about potential ride quality, start with replacing the junk oem shocks and airing down the tires to account for your actual loaded weight.
Look starting on page 31 of the Spec Guide. It lists the various spring rates per platform (F250, F350, Reg, SuperCrew, CrewCab, 6.2, 6.7, etc). They can vary from 3950 to 5600 for SRW trucks
My buddy has a 2015 gasser with a 6000 lb
front spring. I have 5600 and it’s not too bad.
I run 50lbs in front. I don't believe there is a
difference in the front ends between the two
generations.
I think the chart above shows springs you can't get with our trucks. For example, on my 2017 F450 pickup, you get no choices. 6000# front springs regardless of any options (plow and camper change nothing on the truck, only a cert paper.)
