I read your post several times before doing my conversion. I ended up buying the kit. Partly because I was using A/C and I'm too impatient to source all those parts. Plus I'm doing a complete resto-mod and I've got too many potential bugs to work out. When I fire the truck (hopefully this weekend) I've got a new engine build, new transmission overhaul, new rear end, and new brake/hydroboost conversion with new steering box so it is going to be a juggling act making sure everything gets fluid much less work properly. But I always enjoy watching the people that figure out how to make it work with what they got.

Totally understandable that you went a kit route. That's a lot of new / potential bugs you may have; hope it all goes very smoothly as hydroboost is on my to-do list for future upgrades. I already have the dual return power steering pump installed

I've tried looking for these parts on eBay and at swap meets and they're not always easy to find. The dual serp pulley from the crown vic is a big part of this mod. Thanks for following along!

I would certainly be interested in attempting a serp setup like what you've done, but I have updated AC using a Sanden style compressor and would have to adapt that. If I had a full CAD model of the front of the 351M/400 I could probably design a system using off the shelf components like the ones found on the last 5.0L Explorer/Mountaineers, but it's a lot of work. My stock setup has been working with my 3G after I finally found a good belt that doesn't squeal on startup, so have been reasonably satisfied with the stock setup for now. The serp setup truly is the bee's knees, though... nice work and documentation.

Blast from past

Hey Aaron-71. So been 3+years since you posted this. How's it working? Comments suggestions pointers? I have reread any times over the years and collecting parts. The crank pulley, do you by chance know other vehicles and years use the same?

Thank you so much for the education

I realize this thread is 5 years old, with no confirmation from OP if it worked. But... I'm going to try it. I needed a new power steering pump on my 78 400 in my bronco. The belts always squeeled. I wanted to upgrade to 3G alternator and Saginaw power steering pump. Why not upgrade to serpentine belts also?
I've collected almost all the parts and will try to document and add to this thread.

Yeah. I've wondered about this thread too. Aaron hasn't been on FTE since Dec 2023. Hopefully he will chime in.

Looks like it should work following Aaron's detailed description.
If you had a 460 you could install the whole aluminum accessory drive system from a post '86 model onto a pre-86 model changing only a few bolt diameters.

I found the crank pulley on ebay. The water pump pulley wasnt easy to find. I ended up buying from March performance. I ordered the Wildhorses delphi pump and bracket with serp pulley. I have the same pump (as yet untested) on my 75 highboy. Hope they are good

Here are all the pulleys and the pump. Ill mock it up and see if the saginaw pump requires anything different from Aaron's instructions

All the parts are epoxy primed and top coated with silver omni MTK

I needed a 52 inch belt on my PS. The wildhorses saginaw pump kit fit very well. I used the two shims they provided with juat a couple extra washers for spacing.

The 3G alternator side i used my stock ahims and brackets with just a couple wasers on eac for spacing. I used the ahorter belt Aaron provided in his instructoons. It is maxed out and not very tight, but it seems to work. If needed i can get a 44 or maybe 43 inch belt.

Alternator is putting 14.4 volts at idle.
Alternator is putting 14.4 volts at idle. (in this picture I still needed to shim the alternator out a little bit.)

I used The washers behind the crank pulley Aaron suggested. For the water pump pulley, I needed a little more spacing than suggested. I believe I could have just not spaced the crank pulley and adjusted everything from there, as I did not have the issues Aaron had needing the PS pump pushed back more. Probably due to the saginaw conversionand the March water pump pulley instead of stock ford.. I would say that each engine and situation will be different. Overall, this was a super easy and nice upgrade. Now I've got 3G and saginaw pump with non squeeling belts, with minimal costs, compared to aftermarket serp setups.
