The distinction really only makes a difference for theory.

To be a true serpentine accessories (loads) must be driven off both sides of the belt.

I believe the reason they called them serpentine belts is because they thread through the pullies back and forth like a snake (serpent) moves, not that the belts are ribbed. If you google the definition of serpentine it also says it's a dark green mineral, which kinda goes with your Buick green block, so it's definitely a serpentine setup in that aspect!

Just for reference. Picture of a 5.0 Coyote setup. Just like you said, 2 belts, but back and forth snake-like. Again, I love the setup you've created! No hate here.

Hahaha great comments guys.

Wasn't trying to generate hate at all - just wanted to share the little laugh I had when I noticed the comparison with the Coyote.

Hopefully going to get that trans/motor seated properly tonight and start bolting parts back on. More updates to come!

The belts might be the same, but as far as I know the OE's never made a wide flat ribbed belt in a standard (all accessories turn in the same direction) orientation. The very word "serpentine" describes the circuitous route the belts take. They just happen to be the same flat, wide, multi-ribbed belts you're using. So we now know the belts themselves as serpentine belts because they are the same as those used in a true serpentine setup.
To be serpentine, there don't need to be tensioners and idlers to define it. They just turn out to be the best way sometimes to achieve the proper function. But to be serpentine, the belt(s) themselves have to go around in a "serpentine" (like a serpent/snake) configuration.

So to me, while you're using what we know as a serpentine belt, you've simply changed your V-shaped belt system to a flat-shaped belt system, but have not created a serpentine system.
But like was said, if you call it a serpentine, and look for serpentine belts of a certain length, everyone knows what you're looking for. The name won't likely confuse many, but I'm pretty sure it's not a serpentine system by definition.
Or we could just go with Peter Falk in the In-Laws and run around all crazy like and yelling "serpen-tyne" to avoid the bullets!

Now that's funny. For once I actually looked ahead for an additional page of comments before posting, but only saw 2! So now I have to read to see how many times I stepped on my tongue while typing.

HA! You made me think of my favourite line from Megamind. A kids movie, but a good one nonetheless.

Not just for us kids! Everyone should attend the l'il old shool house like theirs.
And for the semi-adults, my favorite moment is when he's coming to the rescue to the tune of Guns n Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" with PRESENTATION!

Serpentine belt systems are about wrap, and you need a pulley on the outside of the belt in order to force more belt-wrap around any particular inside-the-loop pulley.
This can be done with an idler pulley or a tensioner pulley, or with an accessory pulley such as for a reverse-rotation waterpump, outside of the loop.

And just to split more peas: Is a tensioner pulley an idle pulley? Or does performing the task of tensioning the belt disqualify it from being idle?
We can get all of the fly crap out of this pepper if we try...

Now that's a good one right there. Sounds like someone's grandma's old saying when something needed saying.
Hmm, selective magnetism maybe? Fly-crap magnets! I bet we could sell a million of 'em on fleabay.

Did you remove the image, or link FB? That's the second thread where the notification e-mail clearly showed an image present, but none when I followed the link.
If you didn't remove it (or add one in the first place?) that would be interesting...

No, I didn't remove the picture or the link....I've been having problems too with clicking on a thread where pictures are said to be there, but none show up. E mail links to the same are just as you described....nothing shows when I follow the link.

I did respond to one thread arlier today that the OP said he had included pictures...none showed up in the thread......when I hit the "QUOTE" button, ONE of two pictures showed up in the "reply" box.....but when I hit "post quick reply" NOTHING showed up of any pictures....just my type written word.

Try it ---hit the "Quote" button and see if my picture comes up in the reply box. Post up what you find?

So, You and I are not alone in this charade of "New SITE Format".....I hit the "contact us" button and asked them, "WTF?" after I said my piece.
