what you need is a OBDII compliant reader &software-----FORScan is the best imo and requires very little setup. you can have codes and clear them in about 3-5 mins on 1st use

7.3 was originally a medium duty truck engine and is not OBD2 compliant. Most code readers can't pull codes from it. The ones mentioned above can and are cheap. They will more than pay for themselves the first time you use them.

does that mean you tried FORScan w a bluetooth adapter?
does the bluetooth adapter power up? --- light up?
there is a fuse that powers the OBD port. check your owners manual to see which one it is & check it if the adapter does not power up.
did the bluetooth adapter PAIR with the device you are using?
