what you need is a OBDII compliant reader &software-----FORScan is the best imo and requires very little setup. you can have codes and clear them in about 3-5 mins on 1st use
7.3 was originally a medium duty truck engine and is not OBD2 compliant. Most code readers can't pull codes from it. The ones mentioned above can and are cheap. They will more than pay for themselves the first time you use them.
