I have a 96 f350 7.3 AT this is my daily driver, my question is, I have a 93 f250 cab with 7.3 idi and 5 speed parts truck. I want to install the 5 speed in the 96. Will the cab from the 93 go on the 96 and be as simple as plug and play on the fire wall???? It looks like I would just need to take the idm, ecm, and engine brain box out of the fire wall on the 96 and place in the 93 cab. The dash all looks the same as well as the plug for the cab wiring harness. Thanks
the cab will work, but you will have to change the in cab wiring harness. the 93 is mechanical engine, and the 96 is computer controlled. the plug may look the same, but nothing will work when plugged in.
i am more interested in the cab swap. have done some research on the transmissions swap and think i have that figure out. the 96 is computer controlled engine yes, but all the computers for it are on the engine side of the fire wall. i don't know why the main cab harness would be different. the two cabs have the same gauge cluster and dash panel.
The clusters LOOK the same, but they're different electronically. Speedo would interchange. Tach would NOT. The other obvious one is that there's no data link connector in the '93 truck. To know all the differences, you'd need the EVTM from each year of truck. But as said, swapping the dash harness would be the most failsafe option.
Come to think of it, the column wiring might be different as well, since the cruise works completely differently between the two trucks. Oh, then there's the go-pedal....
The cabs proper are virtually the same. Yes, you'd save a fair amount of work swapping the whole cab including the dash and wiring, but you might be waiting a while for one. Transmission type doesn't matter either, since that's all bolt-up.
i'm in no hurry for a cab. Was trying to be plug and play with the wires and not have to figure out the wiring for the transmission swap. just me being lazy. from what i found its not hard. The parts truck i bought for the transmission has an almost 100% rust free cab (this doesn't happen in Wisconsin) but has damage from jackknifing a goose neck. that is why i was wondering. a friend of mine is getting a 6.9 that had a engine/dash fire so we are thinking of using my parts cab for that truck
