yes it is possible to change it I believe. The only thing is being that you have never attempted this I would not recomend this as it is your daily driver. It is worth it if you think it is but just think about it if you mess up you will lose your DD truck and it may not be worth it.
Trav
it can be done, but not to a DD.
figure a good 4 days to do both the cab and trans swap with a helper.
you will need to swap the wiring harness from the 93 cab to the 96 cab if you want to keep the power stuff.
and the auto trans will not work with the manual trans computer in the 96 cab, so you will have to do both at the same time.

Better have more helpers like at least 4 strong backs to pickup and move the cabs off the frames. Best thing to do is totaly strip both cabs to make them lighter.
As for the E4OD to manual swap, I heard you can use your automatic wire harness with a manual trany ECU with a few wire changes. That will make things much better for your swap as you can reinstall it back into the new cab. You also need to swap out the pedal assy to the manual one.
How hard is it to swap the wiring harness on the cab and do the fenders have to be completley removed?
Also have to pull the dash out to get access to it. The harness is wormed around through the dash by holders and grounding points. Its better a two person job pulling a dash assy out but I have done afew by my self.
to bad i cant post pics. im in the proccess of stripping a 95 f150 cab yo sell to somebody. ive been working at it for 2 weeks. almost done. the dash is the worst part ive done. one you get the dash off the rest is kinda simple. thats the reason ive been asking alot obaout cab parts the past week. im almost there just tediose work now.

Here's some photos of a 87 to 91 cab. This is a 87 cab I was going to use on my 84. But I found too much rust in the roof rain rail and someone wanted a "toy" to play in the woods, so $$$ talked and year later I got a 90 cab in better shape. Also what's not came up yet is the dreded VIN tagand what to do with it........ I'll let the flaming begin on that... This caused a good time on the Bullnose(80 to 86) forum few years ago...
enjoy.
Check with your local dmv as to what would be required. What i had to do with my 91/95 was to have the dmv come out and inspect it when we were done swapping everything. Then they gave me a state assigned vin and a new title. Truck was titeled as a 91 since they go off of the frame year here and not the body.
