Warranty Issues

Hopefully, I will be able to get an answer on here..... I have a 2017 F-350 Platinum, I took it in for some warranty issues last week and left it there for three days, nothing was repaired. I have a very annoying rattle that seems to be coming from my B pillar. I've taken all the interior trim off of that area and couldn't find anything loose. I notice it at low speeds going over bumps (in and out of the driveway / hitting a manhole cover in a neighborhood). Has anyone else experienced this or know the fix? Also when it's raining or after a car was every time I hit the brake pedal I get a trailer connected/disconnected warning on the dash and sometimes it will tell me there is a turn signal out on the trailer that isn't even connected. When I'm towing my fifth wheel in the rain I don't have this issue and my best guess is that water is getting 7 pin connector on the bumper. Any advice on how to get these things corrected would be greatly appreciated or tips on not letting the dealership jerk me around and keep my truck for 3 days and not fix anything would also be nice.

Regarding the rattling, from my own experience, check the rear shocks. If you grab them, they should not move. I’ve had the top bolt of my shocks come loose twice.

If that’s not it, release and then slam back the rear seats in case they are not latched tight. Check any and all bolts. I had an annoying metal on metal rattle that drove me nuts - finally found loose bolts and washers in the fold down tray of the rear seat.

Trailer issue after contact with water there is several threads on here about the connection under rear bumper not sealed right and water getting in casing those trailer issues. Check connections in rear. The only rattling issue I've had was on my 15 sounded like it was coming from a post though. Turns out they forgot to put sound damper over fuel injectors.

I'm back logged a week. And I'm an emergency service tech. I still can grab a night job here or there, or something on the way home. But warranty stuff for us is 8-4 only.

Yeah, the auto industry sucks. But Hyundai is doing awesome. In and out in a few hours. Then again, all of their cars are exactly the same trim level.

The electrically issue sounds like the TSB that was issued by ford last year. It’s for the Job 1 trucks built in 2016 and early 2017. The harness connectors allow moisture to intrude on the connections. This will cause false readings and the tailgate to drop. In this forum there are a few detailed threads about this issue.

I had a rattling issue like this, turned out to be two fold. 1) Both the rear seats were not properly latched; and 2) I tightened up ALL the doors with electrical tape on the catches. Quick and easy fix, but nothing I accept on a $80K truck.

And, this goofy reply helps the poster with a serious warranty concern HOW?

For me the rattle near the B pillar was the door latch not fitting tightly against the striker. The dealer thought it was a bushing in the latch but replacing that made no difference. Even though they gave me the truck back saying it was fixed. I loosened the striker and moved it inward. It only had a couple mm of movement but it made a huge difference. A couple wraps of electrical tape on the striker eliminated the rattle all together.

Hopefully it helps him be patient.

It ain't going to get fixed in one week, with 3 dozen broken trucks in the lot. Ford is finding more new and interesting ways to screw up their trucks, than the service techs can keep up with.

On my 17 Super Cab I had a rattle like that and it drove me nuts, finally realized that if I had a passenger and after they got out and did not return the seat belt buckle back in its proper place, against the loop of belt material, it would rattle against the door frame.

I had a banging sound coming from the B pillar on the passenger side. Turned out to be the metal side of the seat belt latch banging against the plastic trim.
Turning the seat belt around to point towards the soft seat eliminated the problem.
