'76 heater core replacement

I will be pulling the interior out of the '76 I bought to put in some "boom mat", it is loud in the cab. I want to pull out the heater box as well and clean change the blower motor and heater core, just because it is out. Is there any way to know what heater core you have prior to removing it, I know they made 2, standard and a larger for more heat, It also has dealer installed A/C if that matters. I would like to have everything before I dive into the project, not that there won't be any unforeseen issues I'm sure.....

Thanks in advance.

Dealer installed A/C won't have any effect on what heater core you have.
If you have the original dash bezel it's easy to tell if you have a high output heater or standard.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I don't know the history of the truck. I guess I won't find out until I pull it apart, no big deal.

Thank You

All thanks to Ranger429:

For anyone looking for a brass/copper core Advanced Auto part number 398304 is the correct one. It is also the same core that fits early, 68'ish mustangs. Laurel Mountain Mustang is where I bought mine from. Part number just in case it is needed in the future:
For A/C 18476-1A
For non A/C 18476-2
www.laurelmountainmustang.com/products/1973-79-bronco-heater-core-without-a-slash-c-brass
Also NAPA but makes sure and ask are they aluminum or copper? Copper is what you want.
Heater core, high output heater C6OZ-18476-B
Antique Auto Supply, Arlington, TX (817) 275=2381
Wesley Obsolete Parts, Liberty, KY (606) 787-5293
Dennis Carpenter, Concord, NC also has 1 but they have it listed under C60Z-18476-B, the third digit is "zero" instead of the correct letter "O". (704) 786-8139
Additional C6OZ-18476-B heater core applications:
1966/70 Falcon w/o A/C / 1966/72 Fairlane/Torino w/o A/C / 1971/73 Mustang/Cougar w/o A/C
Heater core w/ factory A/C or hi-low comfort vent system
D3TZ-18476-A
Std Heater core
D3TZ-18476-C

Won't be able to find copper anywhere. I searched for about a month last year before finally biting the bullet and buying crappy china aluminum. NOS on ebay or amazon is about your only hope, but those folks seem to know what they have, so you can't buy them for under like 100. I wasn't blowing that much on it, so I did what I had to do.

Thank You for that, I will try to find a copper one. I don't feel like doing this again.

Like I said, $90 for NOS is pretty outrageous, but the dude knows that you won't be able to find them in copper anymore. At that price point, probably cheaper to take the core you remove from the truck to a rad shop and have them redo yours.

Looking at that listing, I see no possible way that is NOS. I think the stock one I pulled out of my truck 38 years later looked better than that. I get that NOS parts that old can gather some dirt and grime, but those pictures scream "I've already been run in a truck for a few years". I wouldn't buy it for $50 let alone $90.

The heater cores I've pulled look like that with the left over "gasket" material on the bottom and top stuck to the old core after peeling them off to reuse.
