Tailgate Fit

Lent my buddy the truck (F-100) to go pick up some lumber. He put the tailgate down and the clown at Lowe's working the forklift set a pallet down on the end of the tailgate and bent the top edge of the tail gate all to hell. Can't close it now.

UpullandPay has a 1970 F-250. Will and F-250 tailgate fit my F-100?

i would go to the Lowe,s store. and see if they will make it right. i mean it was their tard that caused the problem to start with. some might say that,s a waste of time. but until you ask you will never know.

I'm showing the same basic number (40700) for:
A) 1964/72 F100/350 body type 83 (yatza Flareside, yaknow)
B) 1964/66 F100/250 4x2 body type 99 (Styleside)
C) 1967/72 F100/250 body type 99
D) 1964/66 F100/250 - 4x4, F350 body type 99

That doesn't mean the tailgate will interoperate between those four groups.
I don't think anything from the A group would work in the other three groups.
It seems like things in the B group should work with trucks from the D group (and vice-versa), but without knowing what specific differences the the 4x4 require, compared to the 4x2, that's hard to call without actually trying one.
I don't think anything from the C group will work in any of the three other groups.

Exterior ornamentation may be different for 1970/72 F100/350 Ranger and Ranger XLT

If you have the same year, body style and drive train (2WD vs. 4WD), and are merely concerned about compatibility between an F100 and an F250, you should be ok.

Are you going to get lucky enough to match the paint?

Incorrect.

B & C interchange! // Your D group use 1957/60 Styleside beds.
Septermber 1966: FoMoCo obsoleted the 1964/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD Styleside tailgate, replaced it with the 1967 (1967/72) F100/350 Styleside tailgate for use as a "service part replacement."

C7TZ-9940700-A (replaced C4TZ-9940700-A) .. Styleside Tailgate.

1967/72 F100/350 / Service part replacement for C4TZ-9940700-A: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD

All the mounting hardware is the same, but the C4TZ tailgate has large FORD block letters, C7TZ tailgate has smaller FORD letters surrounded by a raised ovate scallop line.
---------
Not the same:

B7C-9940700-A .. Styleside tailgate: 1957/60 F100/350; 1961/65 F100/250 4WD; 1961/66 F350; 1962/63 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F250 4WD

Obviously, the Flareside tailgate is not the same...either.

As usual, Bill comes in with the clarification we all need. Haha

I was referring to the 64-72 styleside gates being interchangeable. And their overall shape/design being the same. ( they won't look out of place)

Yes, but you have to clarify 1964/66's because:

1964/65 F100/250 4WD; 1964/66 F350 & 1966 F250 4WD use a different Styleside tailgate, because these trucks used the 1957/60 Styleside beds.

1961/66 enthusiasts call this the "wrong" bed, because the cab lines don't match the bed lines.

Lower pic: "Wrong" bed.

Both UPull its didn't have any trucks. There used to be a half dozen minimum. I ended up straightening it out with my neighbors help. He's a welder and knows how to work steel.

Thanks for all the replies, expecially @NumberDummy. You can always get "exact" specs outta da dummy. lol
