Ignition upgrade help

You can get msd ignitions from anywhere probably your local auto parts store if not then jegs and summit. Two things to definitely do when you get the msd. Keep it away from any excessive heat and get/use the vibration mounts.

http://www.summitracing.com

How about you put some pictures of that $3000 paint job in your gallery. Later

Ignition upgrade help

I have already tried to get an msd system but the parts store told me that they don't make msd systems for a 4.9l, and I can't find it anywhere on the internet.

Thank's

Well they are crazy. Call summit or jegs, the msd box has no idea how many cylinders your engine has all it does is control the spark. You will need to get msd wires or equivalent the solid core stock type will not work properly. Later

Ignition upgrade help

Hi, You will need the following

1. MSD 6A Ignition Box This box doesn't care what you have.
2. MSD Ford TFI Coil or one of the other ign makers TFI coil, I have an ACCELL TFI coil on an MSD box. Gives 50k volts
3. Optional----Plug In~ coil to box to oem harness-- wire harness MSD or others. This saves cut and splice headaches.
4. Really good 8mm plug wires
5. New Dist cap and rotor

MSD doesn't make a cap and rotor, sorry about that. I meant to say that you should use a new OEM cap and rotor as the system will put out 50k+ volts far more than the original. An old cap and rotor might not handle the voltage due to dirt , grease or carbon build up.

Hi, take the coil back. You will not be able to use it.Don't try to make it fit. It is most likely rated to put out far less than the stock coil. Ford uses a _____TFI coil____. If you are going to do this do it right and order the parts from either Jegs or Summit, forget the local auto store. He will not have what you want. Use your computer and look up the MSD website, you want an MSD 6A box and Ford TFI coil, look them up. The project will cost you around $175. If not leave the stock system in place and do a good tune up, because you are going to go backwards.

Another option for you...

Mallory Unilite and an Accel Super Coil on a custom mount.

Real nice Job Gene , does it glow in the dark when it is running?? The neighbors TV set must love it. I will bet you can remove the side electrode from the plugs and have it arc to the head , hard to gap though.
Just kidding , nice engine.
