For a while now, I get a slight grinding when coming to a stop. Happens when I'm at like 2mph, and I can mitigate it by releasing the brake pedal a bit when almost at the stop.
Not sure if that's relevant, but today the ABS light came on. I hit a big pothole on the freeway, on the driver's side.
I checked the driver's side front wheel sensor and visually it looks fine. I loosened it and re-torqued it. Not exactly sure how to start testing things, and also reluctant to start throwing parts at it.
Anyone have this happen to them? Is there a common cause?
If you have access to a scanner, check to see what code is being flagged if/since the ABS Light is ON.
x2 on the ABS code scan. If you don't want to throw parts at it, get the code. I'm in central Texas. If you can make it to me, we can figure it out quick, and we can get it fixed up for you.
Have you been continuing to drive it, if so has the ABS light stayed on, or gone off?
Your profile doesn't say anything about what you're driving. How old are your wheel bearing hubs?
My past experiences have shown me that worn hubs, with some play in them will cause the ABS light to come on, too much play or wear in the bearings will cause inaccurate readings/clearances form the ABS sensor to the reluctor wheel.
Continuing to drive, ABS light comes pretty much as soon as I get going.
2000 V10, 178k miles, 2wd
Front wheel bearings were replaced by myself when I did the brakes/rotors around 172k. It is possible I didn't torque properly, but I remember it was only like 18in/lb or something.
Thank you, Nicmike, I may take you up on that offer. I'm in the DFW area - might be able to come down over a weekend. Do you have a shop or just a DIYer?
Check to see if the connection is tight/good near the fender well. You said you already checked it at the hub.
Also, check to make sure you haven't chafed the line. My tires started chewing into my lines and was giving me an intermittent abs light until it came on completely when the wires were bare.

Recently found this to be the problem on another members newly purchased X. Road debris took out the connector right behind the driver tire. Destroyed it and part of the fender liner. Previous owner tried to cobble it back together, but failed. We went to the salvage yard, got a new connector for the truck side, and then installed new hubs...which replaced the connector on the hub side. He was back in business with no more ABS light.
This may sound stupid but I had this issue on another car. Check the sensor and exciter ring for debris. I had a piece of steel/rust stuck to mine and the brakes acted super strange. I took it apart and cleaned everything, finding losts of crap stuck everywhere, and it was fine after that. Just an idea.
