F-6 Wheel Issues

F-6 Wheel Issues
Hi,
I want to get my hands on a F-4 to F-6. I've been reading about the opportunities to upgrade from the widow maker wheels. I wanted to see if I understand the options.
Thanks!

- New ones, WN89340J, from Rick's. They expect some in around May.
- Get lucky and find some off of a Dodge m400 or m500 chassis motorhome.
Thanks!

That is one option. The 19.5” Budd 89340 was used on lots of 1970/80s era Dodge and Ford Class A motor homes and can still be found in salvage yards cheaper than buying the new imported variety. There are also new 22.5s that are equal in size to your stock 20s. Available from the same sellers that have the 19.5s. The last option is to find non-widow maker locking side ring 20s. Still can be found in old yards, or a few of us on the forum have available sets. Stu

American wheel specialist will have the 22.5 in stock. You can see those rims on mixerman truck. Wheels now , last I checked had 19.5 wheels and waiting for 22.5. Those are a couple places. Truckdog is the man to ask about these rims and replacements. There are also original 22.5 that I have on my truck. Hard to find but with the help of truckdog I got a set from jmadson. If you stick around you will learn who is who. Good luck in your search and welcome to the forum

Hi RafTruck, welcome.
Are you concerned about the look? Do you need the five handholes? Will you be using the truck commercially? The new wheel center stampings from American Wheel are universal and will accommodate ten lug hubs, that's the reason for the wide face, but the price is very reasonable for an all new DOT certified wheel. If you can live with the newer two handhole design I think it's the way to go. Here's a pic of my truck with new 9R22.5's, the 8.25x20 equivalent. Again, Truckdog is the go-to guy for wheel questions.

Bob’s question about your planned use for a truck is real important. And which model you find and buy might also send you in one direction vs another. An F-4, for example, could have come new with SRW 20” wheels with 7.00-20” tires, or DRW with 18” wheels and 7.00-18” tires. A 7.00-20” will be about 36” tall while the 18” tire will be about 35” tall. For an F-4 the 19.5” wheels with 8R19.5” tires will be slightly shorter in diameter (33.5”) than both the 18” tires and 7.00-20”, but are a real nice option. An F-5 on the other hand would probably have come with 7.50-20” tires at 37” tall, and an F-6 could have been fitted with either 7.50” or 8.25”-20” tires at 39” tall. If you go with the new 22.5” wheels the narrowest tire today available is the 9R22.5” which, as Bob said, matches the 39” diameter of the 8.25”-20. If you instead are looking to go with old locking side ring 20” wheels most that you’ll find are the 4.33” or 5.00” widths which would best be fitted with the 7.00” or 7.50” tires. To go with the 8.25” tires you’d need to find 6” wide wheels. Stu

If you're referring to my truck, it has a Warner T9 transmission and an Eaton 1350 differential. And thanks for the compliment. There are more pics in my albums if interested.
