I’ve read multiple forums but I’m not fixing the issue.
When I connect my trailer the truck will realize it’s connected and give me the message. As soon as I adjust the gain or hit the slider it will tell me it’s disconnected, or about three minutes into the drive it tells me I’m disconnected. The brakes still work, however, even with the message. All lights work properly and wired correctly. What I’ve done:
brand new 7-pin connector and wires. Soldered everything, no change.
cleaned all connectors on the truck and trailer. Shiny as they can be.
Grounded the white trailer brake wire to the frame of the trailer in multiple locations.
brand new ground wire from the brake box on the trailer to the brakes.
Ran another ground wire from the truck frame to the trailer.
Whats weird is that the brakes still work and changing the gain, even when it says trailer disconnected, still makes the change at the trailer. I’m just stumped and getting worked up about the issue and looking for help. Thanks everyone.
The gist of it is that maybe your surge brakes aren't working now like they used to.
based kn that description, these aren’t surge brakes. There’s no pin that I need to worry about and the wiring for these is very simple. Straight from the truck to the brakes

Changing the gain is something that happens on the truck, without any trailer involvement as far as I know. If all you do is change the gain and you get the disconnect message then leads me to believe that there is something goofy on the truck.
