I have adaptive steering and find it kind of useless or not brutally apparent that it is working or even on my truck. OK here's the question... how many revolutions is the steering for others that have adaptive steering and also for people that don't have it when fully stopped and going slow? Mine is 3 full revolutions lock to lock. The steering wheel is completely upside down (180 from going straight) all the way to either side, stopped (at lock) and going 3 - 6 mph it is able to be moved another 30 degrees at full lock. Is this all that it does? I am not sure it was worth the $1000
I haven't driven another SD without AS, so I can't make that comparison. But I can compare the 2018 SD to my old '12 F-150; The wheel is far more responsive in the SD for parking lot maneuvers over the F-150. With the F-150 in parking lots or slow speed, it felt like I was steering a logging truck. If I didn't have AS, I'd be okay. Just more cranks on the wheel. As long as you know that is just how the truck drives, then there you go.
I have both. The one with has failed twice and left me with a steering wheel in 5 o'clock position going straight and the one without has not . I do notice that due to higher gear ratio at slower speeds, it is harder to turn steering wheel while barley moving.
