So i just fixed the pcv valve issue and connected the vacuum advanced, started the truck and it ran fine. i went to go grab my timing light just to check and it was 10 degrees btdc witch seemed fine to me, after a few more minutes of letting it idle and warm up in the driveway i heard it stutter a little and then worse and worse, i went and checked the timing to see it was now 0 degrees btdc. distributed was tight and hasnt budged so i have no idea why it did this. if you have any thoughts let me know
turns out that when i connected the vacuum advance, it literally pulled the insides of the distributor apart, put a new one in today and its running great
I am bringing this thread back from the time machine as I am installing a 4BBL Edelbrock on my '74 F250 which I think is a 390.
I just want to drive it a bit and the Edelbrock has different setup, so this thread is interesting to me.
I might go purchase a new Holley like the one installed when I got it (but hate to at this time, too many unfinished projects and low funds). I tried to rebuild the Holley and it was more than I could handle and I had a few beers while doing the rebuild...subsequent carb backfire and FIRE from flaming gas all over the motor set me back quite a bit.
I will use stock intake and get new goodies for the distributor. I want to use original distributor shaft as I have read some issues with the ones available from parts stores nowadays.and replace the roached wiring.
