Need some help. Recently acquired an 82 F-250 4x4 XLT, and realized that neither the turn signals or brake lights were working, running lights were fine. Checked grounds - looked good, changed all bulbs, when I realized the turn signals weren't working due to the hazard light **** on the steering column being pulled out. With the turn signals out of the way, what else can I do to narrow down the issue(s) with the brake lights?
Correct every is working except for brake lights, and hazards, which apparently never worked, but not too concerned about those now. Don’t have a test light, but took a multimeter to the brake pedal switch and got 12v. Couldn’t get 12v at either of the bottom 2 sockets at the tail light... is it just coincidence that both bottom sockets/wiring went bad, while both of the top ones are fine? They are wired individually correct?
So you have 12 volts on both sides of the brake light switch when the pedal is pushed?
If so I would say the turn signal switch is bad.
Power goes from brake light switch to turn signal switch so if you have the signal on 1 side and pressed on the brake the turn over rides the brake light.
The 4 way is also part of the turn signal switch.

Yes at the top, you have to pull the steering wheel off to get to it. There is a puller needed for the wheel removal.
The wires run down inside the colum to a plug at the bottom.
take note of the wire colors in the plug as the wires need to be removed from the plug. A paper clip may work to get them out.
Tie string to the wires at the plug end and pull them out thru the top. Tie string onto the new switch wires and pull them back down using the string.
The rest is backward of how you got it out.
