Mine did it when I picked it up, but I backed the dampeners out a few more turns and I haven't seen it move at all now.
I did the same, may need to back them out further. Only issue that may arise is the hood is currently even with the fender and has a good even gap between, if I back them our further, the hood may not be even with the fender. Also, mine is Silver and being 6' 6" in height, I sit higher in the seat and may have a better vantage point to notice the shake. I have also noticed as other have that there is an increase depending on wind direction and airflow disturbances from trucks and such.
I did take it to my dealer, they checked everything out and did a test drive... the shake was present as I stated to them, but they stated there is nothing the can do... I may look into some type of flush hood pin system or such as it drive me nuts...
I never noticed it until I read this thread and drove at highway speeds with a head wind. That was today! Once the head wind quit, the shake went away. The wind was pretty stout, according the local weather hacks, it was blowing 20 mph.
I’ve had my 17 F250 for a year now and I’ve noticed mine flexes quite a bit too. Much more than my 16 F250. I’ve adjusted the bumpers up, down and even screemed obscenities at them. None of it did any good save for making me look like a lunatic to my my kids... keeps them guessing. I’ve noticed that it seems to be the actual latch that is allowing a good deal of the movement. When I say movement it is really only a few millimeters but it drives my OCD nature nuts. Anyhow, from what I can see it is nothing to be worried about.
Glad I saw this post I have noticed this on mine too just within the last 2 weeks. First time was when a semi passed by me (oncoming) going prob 65mph. My hood shook so much I felt like the thing was coming off. A day after that is when I noticed a dent ( more of a crease) in my hood. I dove the truck again yesterday on the freeway and every time I pass a semi or have a wind gust difference it shakes liked crazy. It’s latched and stays latched. But how long will it hold up under that violent shake? I’ll prob end up taking mine in.
Changing the oil today,so was looking at the bump stops. They are showing signs of making contact, some paint scuffing.Everything else looked good. By the way the engineer that designed the oil filter system needs to go to work at Oil Can Henery's for life.Jerk
I had this happen to me the other day on the highway going around 65mph. There was a strong head wind and the hood started shaking like it was about to open. very sketchy but the hood was not ajar so no harm just scarey
I just came back from Texas, where highway speeds are 75, compared to 55 in GA, and I noticed my hood shaking for the first time, especially when I met a semi.
Thought I’d add another observation I noticed today on mine regarding the hood shake. Mine has still shown signs of shaking. One thing happened this evening on the way home. My hood ajar light came on and i hit the OK button as I knew it wasn’t and could visualize it. But my door ajar light came on as well. I checked all the doors and tailgate opening and closing them. Then opened the hood and closed it. Then the light went off. So I think a trip to the dealer is in the future.
I’ve done several long hauls and never noticed it until last weekend when heading into a storm at about 65. It really freaked me out honestly! I thought the hood latch was failing and the hood was about to come off! I’m concerned that 5-10 years down the road it will be a significant issue. Like the bend in the hood on all the 70-80s GM trucks.
Every time I pass a big rig on a 2 lane hwy my hood acts like it is about to fly off. Done so since day one, 30k miles later and I still have my hood. I do think Ford should have done a much better job on the hood though.
I have an idea I want to try, but haven't had any time to do so.
My idea is to attach a rubber strip to the underside front of the hood. This should help prevent air inflow under the hood, and create a slight vacuum to hold it against the bump stops.
I don't like the idea of forcing the stops out because it either mis-aligns the hood or causes more pressure on the center latch. It seems that it isn't a reliable fix anyhow.
If any of you guys want to try this and see if it works, please do.
It almost seems like the inner and outter skins are going to separate at some point or have already. It’s such a violent shake. Now I question whether the crease ( dent ) in my hood was from the shake! I noticed it the day after the first occurrence.
