Hood Shaking

Hey All, traded my '15 SRW 350 for a '17 DRW 350. I've noticed over the last few extended trips that the hood shakes and looks as if it's going to blow open above 70 MPH, I've checked the latch, adjusted the stops and still have the issue. Never happened with my '15, is this just something we have to live with since Ford went to aluminum?

Thanks

Mine has done the same, especially a few days ago coming back from the coast while a front was blowing in. Makes you feel like the hood is going to blow open. I think it’s something we’ll have to live with on these new fords as I couldn’t find anything that was loose, though I didn’t spend to long looking at.

This has never happened on my truck. If it is something that is actually observable, I'd take it to the dealer and take the service manager for a ride.

Alaskan_Warbird 03-13-2018 05:34 PM

Yeah, I'd take mine in too and complain if that happened to me. I've had mine up to ~70mph a couple of times and never seen anything like that!

Cdobyns 03-13-2018 05:39 PM

Yes it happens to all

MJMETHOW 03-13-2018 07:08 PM

Mine also does it,noticed it in S. Dakota . It would happen with a head wind and semi going the opposite direction. Stopped and checked, nothing.

Alaskan_Warbird 03-13-2018 07:10 PM

Huh. Guess I've just been lucky to not notice it yet? Maybe I'll do 80+ mph on the way home tonight. :-X04

It kind of depends on the head wind. Mine can shake like crazy some times and not at all other times.

I've seen it mentioned in other threads. I've seen some lifting/bouncing at highway speeds if there's any wind.
Especially noticable if you are being passed by a semi, too. So far I haven't heard of any one's hood
flying open. YIKES!! Fingers crossed.

No, it doesn't happen to all. As I said, it doesn't happen on mine. I've driven in all kinds of conditions without so much as a ripple.

Same. But I'll be sure to report if it does!

Mine did it when I picked it up, but I backed the dampeners out a few more turns and I haven't seen it move at all now.

Haven't noticed on my 250 yet but did notice it on my 16 f150. What color is your truck? My F150 was ruby red. Just curious if it's more noticeable depending on color of hood.

Sounds like it was a pretty easy fix, glad to see you took the initiative to perform a bit of adjusting on your own. Sure beats running to the dealer all in a flap, sitting in the waiting room for a couple of hours and spending gas money on something so easy to do yourself. Hats off to ya!

Alaskan_Warbird 03-13-2018 09:17 PM

I may or may not have stepped on it on the way home tonight. :D No hood shaking. At all. Not sure what the dampeners are that were mentioned but y'all may want to give that a try.
