I was told that you cant get powersteps from factory with the chrome pkg. Don't ask me why.
Mine are the aftermarket AMP PowerSteps. Mine came with the factory steps included in the chrome package and were replaced. On mine you can not interact with them through factory interface. They plug into the OBD2 port for power and to know when the doors open or closed. If you want them to stay in the deployed position you must be outside the truck and apply weight to the step when it wants to close and it senses the restriction and then stays down for cleaning until the door is cycled open again to reset the board. There is no way to have them down while driving(at least not on mine). If you want them to be off then just unplug them from the port. For me they were a wonderful upgrade that I would do again and again.

I have the factory ones; having the Platinum. I think they are more of a novelty than anything else. I would be more than happy with static in place steps or running boards.

I don't drive a lot in the winter, but when I have, no lock-ups or freeze-ups, and I have had her out in some freezing rain stuff. Wouldn't surprise me if they ever did freeze-up, just like your power windows, sometimes you don't get to use them (right away anyways).

I was never a fan of fixed running boards. They are usually mounted too high on the F150's to really be useful, and if you go off road and high center, they always get bent up. the power steps are much more useful in my opinion, and my 78 YOA handicapped mother can even get in my 4X4 with the power steps, but she could not with the factory boards that came on the truck.

I was originally unable to find a truck on the lot that met all of my other criteria that also had the factory power steps. I have a Lariat 502a package and figured I could have them added easily, and was told by my dealer It was not such an easy add on, and sometimes the truck lacks all of the wiring harnesses. They suggested I get the AMP aftermarket Plug and Plays (from another vendor) which is what I went with. It also seems that my AMP boards deploy much faster than the factory boards on my BILs King Ranch.

I have been very happy with them so far, but I live on the Texas Coast and cant speak to the winter aspect of your question. I would buy them again in a heartbeat. Well worth the money I spent.

With the height of these trucks I can't imagine NOT having the power boards. The non-power boards are not as easy to use and also IMO draw away from the massive look that these 2017+ Superduties have. Mine came from the factory with them, but I would have installed aftermarket if it hadn't!

First I say thank you, I have a 6” Full Throttle Suspension Radius Arm Lift. The wheels are 22x12 MotoMetal Razor w/ -44 offset and I went with Cooper Discoverer SST Pro in 22/13.5R22.

Rear gears are 3:73. I do mostly in town driving and average about 10 MPG. On hwy I get a mix due to high winds of Kansas and get anywhere from 10-13 MPG @75 MPH average. So combined I guess it’s 10-11 MPG( my Speedo is off by 5MPH also so that might net me another .5 MPG).
