I had it about 12 years, and yes, getting heavier. It wasn't as responsive at the 12th year as she was when brand new, sometimes I wasn't gettin' my drink at all.
I am currently trying out newer ones, but oh man, they are way more expensive than they used to be, and not made as well as the ones in the '60 and '70s.
If you want a newer seat, grab a 90s bench seat and you can have this setup. My 92 flareside had this but it was two cups instead of storage and one cup. Ah here is my cup holder, found a pic. I wonder if you could take the posts and attach them to a 70s bench. I might look into this too when I get that far
I don't want a newer 90's seat, new seats suck. the old 70's bench seats are awesome with the actual real springs, they are actually comfortable. Always wanted a vehicle with them again (my first car was a '78 ford LTD with a bench seat)
I like the look on that bottom picture. I'd want that OE look if I ever added one. I've never added a cup holder to any vehicle that's never had one. I just adapted my habits, like only drinking sodas from bottles with resealable caps when driving, which, for me, only meant at red lights. It helped keep my trucks clean, though. I refused to eat or drink in my truck even on long trips which I know can be hard as an American with a double chin and a dunlap. lol.

Yeah I loved the double cup holder in my flareside. Plus it was easy to remove. I might look into adding the cup holder in my spare time. Might be easier to mock it up now before I redo my interior... may be something I tackle this spring/summer.
