not sure if this is the right spot but I’m in a very ****ty situation. I just drove 3.5 hours north of where I live for an interview and when I went to leave my truck started and ran fine. Got about 5 minutes out of town and the Truck Shut off. Not as if the battery died but as if I completely disconnected the battery. It’s been having random similar issues lately where sometime when coming to a stop the truck will shut off but normally will start right back off. Some morning when I go out to start it the glow plug relay and wait to start light along with the cab lights will repeatedly turn on and off. Some of these issues according to the internet were because of a camshaft position sensor. I originally replaced it with one from autozone and also replaced both batteries and the truck no longer had problems. I later replaced it with a ford oem one the other day. I also replaced the icp? Sensor because it had oil in the plug. Another issue is that the alternator is only putting out 12.5 volts at idle but will put out 14 while driving. That to me sounds like a voltage regulator but i don’t think that would cause a battery repeated connect/reconnect. I’m stranded 3.5 hours away and just need a list of everything I should check over because every shop is closed till Monday. Just to add on top of my issues my hood latch is stuck closed so I’ll have to unbolt that behind the grill to get the hood open. I’m only on my phone so research is a little more difficult. I guess I’m just looking for some suggestions on where all the grounds are that I should check. I’ll probably buy an alternator tomorrow as well and try to replace that. Any and all help is appreciated.
Same here on 94 F250 PSD, Just shut off, I did, CPS, ICP, slow crank, hard if not impossible to start. Turned out to be the pax side battery poor connection. I got rid of that truck and found a 89 F250 IDI with 47K miles hasn't given me any issues except my rear brake line blew out. Good luck.
Losing power to everything inside the cab. I will be checking to see if I have power to the Headlights in the morning and If I don't then it's gotta be a power/ground issue. I did just replace a cable end when I did the batteries. I will buy a torch and some thick guage wire and some solder and a few cable ends and start checking stuff out. I will check alllllll of the grounds and start replacing ground wires till it starts. If no start still I will go for the power wires. I planned on rewiring all the power/ground and swapping the altenator tomorrow when I got to my buddies place a few hours away but didnt quite get that far so I guess might as well do it in the cold outside.
Been there it sucks, Was your ignition switch wonky at all? on that old PSD, the ignition switch also failed me I ended up pulling it all apart until I had just the rod in the column and used that to engage GP and start but before it failed I had all kinds of weird electrical issues in cab. But more then likely its battery power/ground connection. Your on the right track. Hopefully u have a sleeping bag and can rack out in the back and think about it. With all that said you deserve the job you interviewed for!
haha thanks. It's between me and one other guy so hopefully they pick me after all this nonsense. My ignition seems tight and good but ill probably grab one from the parts store just incase. Luckily the tow truck driver was nice enough to drop me at a hotel for the night. Ill have to walk or taxi back to it which is a 25 minute walk unfortunately. It's a really small town so they definitely wont have uber or lyft but hopefully a taxi.
Two summers ago I got a CPS code when it shut off completely. Replaced that and still no go. Replaced the IDM and away I went. Did a whole bunch of other stuff in between those two things! Good Luck

Check to see if the nut is tight on the starter relay that is mounted on the fender. The nut on the post with 3 or 4 wires on it, as Ford uses this post to relay power to the cab and other points. To me it sounds like a loose connection or a wire making intermittent contact.
Wes, do some checking before buying a butt load of stuff if you can. It is tough being stunk in a small town but people are usually really helpful in a small place like that. Hope it is a easy find and fix for you.
Agreed, hopefully u came up with a CONOP to isolate the issue, get it home then figure it out. Nothing worse then sitting on the side of the road trying to figure it out, My old PSD did that to me so many times I resolved to get an older diesel to fix and so Far the 89 IDI has fulfilled my dreams, that said I don't go anywhere without tools, sleep kit and a small stove/dehyds haha. But like Buddy Barnes mentioned most folks seem to be helpful when your hoodup. I know I always pull over when I see broke-down folks. IF your in Florida near Eastcoast ill come.

Check your pcm relay. If it fails, it can be making intermitttent contact, causing your dash lights to blink when you turn the key to wait to start. Can easily check by swapping the pcm relay with your trailer lights relay in the box under the hood. I had a similar issue recently with the truck shutting off while driving, and that's what it turned out to be.
