This is probably an inappropriate behavior I have brought over to the truck from dirt biking.
In dirt bike riding a 2 psi pressure change makes a huge difference in the way the bike handles as we run those tires at 6 to 8 psi.
The trailer never leaves the driveway without verifying tire pressures with a quality gauge. Saves lots of headaches.
I started out racing dirt bikes in my early teens. Been racing in one form or another ever since. In cars since I was in my 20s. I work in the professional racing industry and do consulting on the side. On some racecars a half pound of air pressure is very significant. I live and die by the accuracy and consistency of air gauges.

FWIW In my experience, measuring in KPA seems to be the best route to accurate and precise measurements.
