tune up turned bad

got plugs and boots to do tune up on 2000 Ex with V10. as i started to remove first couple of coils to prep plugs with some blaster to soak, i noticed injector connecters were loose and i didnt touch any of them. Upon closer examine i could see the clips were broke off of them. the seemed very brittle. what is best fix for this? new harness or can pigtails be found? i have a feelin i should go thru and check all of them before i pull plugs dont want any plastic pieces falling into plugs holes accidently.

any help is appreciated, thanks

will

You can get all the new connectors from Rock Auto, I did the whole harness. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post17486101

well as soon as i finish this too end tunne up i have to start with tranny and tc. i have been spotting fluid on bolts.

thanks for lead on harness.

How many miles do you have?
Wondering if the connectors are brittle from age or miles.
Our 2002 at 122k has all good connectors.

Yes, I soldered every one and used a high-quality heat shrink with the sealant inside. I did have to peel back some of the OEM tape wrappings too, it was all dried out and crumbling in areas, considering 18 years of NJ weather. I wish I could have found new plastic channels for the harness, some of the plastic position set pins weren't in the best shape, but the harness laid in nicely so it would have just been an extra support.

I guess the climate, location, and age would make a difference in the condition of various plastic compositions cause mine is 2001 with 98k and 90% were brittle.

i am new to the truck. it has 160K+ on odom. but i noticed speedo is over calibrated, it is about 4.5 mpg over when traveling in 50 to 60 mpg range. i assume it has had larger tires (and calibrated to which) then when before i bought. i assume it is reflection of age and possibly the use of engine running ...high temps.
i hope yours are well. connectors (pigtails) seems reasonbly priced. should be easy enough to fix. Just working on trying to clear harness around back of block is proving to be a knuckle buster for sure.

Exactly. it is what it is. just dealing with it. I also noticed exhaust manifold nuts studs rusted off and almost gone when peering thru fender well im trying to work wire harness around back of block. exhaust will have to wait...

saw your early threads. very impressive sir. how did u get harness loose? did you have the block pulled?
is there a way access back block area from inside (ie take out dash)?

I did make a nifty air blower from some surgical tubing and compressor air blower attachment. has really proven to work well in clearing head crevices of debris prior to pulling cops out. i will post pic of later.

thanks for your help. God Bless and Semper Fidelis.

I had everything off to the block, so removing the harness was cake. New Exhaust Manifold Project I should have called it the Domino Effect Project with a side of Murphy's Law thrown in.

There is no need to cut and solder the new connectors on.

A paper clip will remove wires from new and old connectors. Than just snap the contacts into new connector.

takes about 1 min per connector.

You can buy grey stripe split loom, it's high temp rated for under-hood use. Much better than letting wires ride around loose. Depending how much wiring work you're doing you can also get repalcement alsphalt sleeve or other kinds of high-temp abrasion protections:

thanks. sure. i thought about that too. i saw a video how to repin. my biggest effort is going to be getting this harness out to bench work it, becuz just not enuff room to work passenger side. i may end up taking intake out of the way to get to it better.
