Generator Sparks

I noticed some short random sparks inside the rear opening of my 223 6V generator when I was reving the engine by hand. The generator seems to be working fine and providing 7 volts to the battery when the rpms are increased. The sparks are not consistanr however is this a sign of my generator going bad?

Not uncommon to see sparks from the brushes.

Unless you see sparks with very long trails I wouldn't be concerned. A flashover is pretty uncommon on these.
