On my 2000 SD
the door handle has stopped going back in. at 1st it just refused to go back in but the door would latch.
I ignored it for a week or so, and now it wont latch, The latch looks ok, but i cam play with it with a screwdriver and it will latch...
wondering if anyone knows how to fix, b4 I tear into it and screw things up?
Also. There’s a rubber plug. I’m wondering if thats some sort of access hole to help me fix this

Maybe take it apart first just to take a look at it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find the part that needs to be replaced, which you could probably identify on an exploding parts diagram on a parts website.

Door handles are about $10 each shipped. just replace all 4 and be done. Not worth the time to clean and lube in my opinion. THe fronts I bought from a different seller and are a little nicer than the back. back were installed in July 2016 and fronts 2017 when one stuck and I had to tear the door apart 3 hours from home so the wife could shut the passenger door lol.
For what it's worth, it only takes two 7mm fasteners to be removed, and the door panel is off, giving you plenty of access to determine the faulty part.
