Powerstroke 6.4 issues
I have a problem where the check engine light comes on when I start the truck. When I pull the codes I get a U0101 and P1000. In general it seems that I should have to replace the tcm. But that opens a new can of worms as I have a deleted truck and from what I read, I will need to put the DPF back on to get a new TCM connected to the truck. Once I clear the codes the truck runs fine but I will be with out cruise control until I restart the truck. I have learned that I can significantly reduce the chance of getting that check engine light if I put the key in the on position for 30 to 60 seconds before actually starting the truck.
The second problem is after taking the truck on a longer trip, let's say 30+ minutes, and then stopping for 15 to 30 minutes. The fan clutch will lock up when the truck is restarted, to where the truck sounds like a jet engine. Frequently when this happens the transmission doesn't shift normally, cruise control does not work. I pull over, turn off the truck, turn the key to on position, for 30+ seconds, and then start the truck. The truck will then continue to operate correctly for the rest of the trip.
The above problems only seem to happen during the warmer months. Starting at about 70 degrees outside and increase in frequency as the temperature warms up in the summer. I do not have any of the problems during the winter months.
Are these problems related or do I have a problem with the TCM and the fan clutch? Is my fan clutch acting weird when the truck is warm, sits for a brief time, and power cycling it fixes the problem? Is there some other sensor I should be looking at? Which problem should I try to solve first if they are related?
This truck is a 2008 4x4 model, late job1 (Pre job 2 where ford already started using the later style transmission.)
Thank for your input!
