P0480 Cooling fan control circuit malfunciton

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2012 F-250 with the 6.7 diesel. The other day I hooked up to my 35 ft gooseneck trailer and about an hour into my trip I came to a stop sign made a turn and had an overheating alarm as I tried to come back up to speed. I ended up unhooking and driving back to the house to get my 2005 6.0L to finish my trip. On the drive back I didn't have any overheating issues nor did I have a check engine light. I hooked up my edge gauges and found a P0480 cooling fan control circuit malfunction code. I cleared it and the code came back immediately.

I did some checking on the electric/hydraulic fan clutch after the engine had cooled completely and found that after only a few revolutions of the fan the clutch loosened up and spun freely. Since the clutch should only spin freely after the fluid inside has reached temperature I suspected a clutch problem. I replaced the clutch, cleared the codes and took it for a drive. Initially it seemed to be working as I got on the highway and up to speed you could hear the fan running until the fluid reached temperature and it shut off. I checked the codes and didn't have any. Again I hooked up to my trailer and headed down the road. Ten minutes in I knew I still had an issue. My cooling temperature exceeded 215 without the fan turning on and oil temp reached 230. So now I also suspect I have a oil cooler problem. Without a load I dont have any overheating issues but the fan does not come on at low speeds as it should.

Has anyone had a similar issue? I can come up with a short list of items to troubleshoot but I am not sure how to check them effectively.
1. Wiring harness - Does anyone know what the voltages should be on the different wires?
2. Fan Relay - Not actually sure if this truck even has one
3. PCM - Programming malfunction or bad PCM?

On a side note what type of oil temperatures do you see when pulling with the 6.7. Would we still expect to see a differential of no more than 10 degrees between the EOT and ECT?

Thanks for the help!
