Power steering hiss

At full lock, and only to the right, does my PS make a loud hissing noise. Is this normal?
Don't know that I have ever noticed it on another automobile, at least not this overt.

the systems used now sometimes get air trapped in the pumps.. if it ever got low or wasnt properly "bled" at the factory it may need to be done again. these newer pumps unfortunately wont always prime themselves and need a vacuum put on them to suck the air out of the system..

Noticed the same thing on mine. Thought it was to the left though. I'll double check later.

i miss read that part when answering before.. your most likely hitting the steer oversteer stop since you stated your at full lock... and yes they will be louder when thats hit... with the way the SD are set up some vehicles are able to hit both locks while others are not. when the steer oversteer stop is hit the pump gets noticeably louder... older vehicles sounded like belts screeching when they were hit.. newer vehicles just tend to make the louder pump whine... some describe it as a hiss..

Mine does it as well and the noise comes from the area of the steering wheel. Outside the truck there is no noise and I have adaptive steering also.

I do not have adaptive steering, and I have had the same noise. It is not from over-rotation in my case. Based on many previous postings mentioning the same noise, with some getting it checked at the dealer...it's normal.

I have it as well, it happens at full or close to full lock in either direction.

Mine does it as well. The sound comes from inside the truck.

Like others have said, it definitely sounds like air in the fluid. I use it as a reminder that I shouldn't be turning full lock... but I will ask the dealer to have a look at it when it bring it in for a compressor noise.
