My first post so i'll get right to it. I have a 74 F100 with a 360 C6 I'm looking to up grade the 360. I also have a complete 76 Grand Marquis with a running 460 4v mated to a C6 with all the maintenance records for that engine.
1. Should I swap in the 460 or trade it for a 390?
2. Besides motor mounts what else's is involved with a 460 swap?
Tough choice...
390 would be easier because you can reuse everything you already have. Drop it in an go.
460 you already have...
This is what I would do: (In order of preference)
1. Try and trade or sell the 460 for a good 390
2. Sell the 460 and buy a stroker kit or 390 rotating assembly and convert your 360 to a 390/410
3. Swap in the 460
I'd put the 460 in. Its a far better engine than the 390. Besides the engine mounts I don't think you'll run into much difficulty. You might need the torque converter that goes with the 460.
So then the 460 is currently in the car therefore I could use the torque converter and c6 out of the Marquis?
Also will the stock manifolds work for now?
I would also vote for the 460. I am not sure on the manifolds but one area I suspect will be different is the tail housing on the transmission. Generally the pickup C6 had a shorter tail housing and a bolt on yoke with the slip yoke built into the drive shaft. The car version will have a longer tail housing and the slip yoke is right in the tail housing itself, so plan on modifying the drive shaft.
You can get the whole front motor mount kit for the 460 from various suppliers, I think one is called L&L
