Hi. My truck didn't have any mirriors when I got it. I just went to the junkyard and grab a set (the ones I want) off a 70s camper. I'll have to drill the new holes in my doors. Im curious if anyone knows if you use any of the holes from the smaller mirriors it had before? Also if the threaded inserts are something you can buy or should I just use bolts? I was going to measure the camper locations but being van based Im not sure it would work out. Thanks Nate
Well, a lot of mirrors share the same upper mounting point, but since yours are off a van, no clue. As for the inserts, you can pick them up at most big box stores. I would suggest getting the tool that looks like a rivet gun. I have never gotten the little bolt and nut thing to work. Also, I would use steel inserts, not aluminum. Should hold up better.
You can get the inserts at the store with a nut and bolt installer, very easy but it is a 2 man job. You have to hold the nut on the inside of the door while the other person does the tighnig. None of the old holes can be used. I took mirrors just like those off my truck because if you happen to bump into something they wreck the door.Ya I know don,t hit anything but poo happens
