I'm told before 09 was a different engine. We need torque. Also, could anyone point out common repairs or malfunction on any particular engine?
We will purchase used and keep it for long time. We are small construction service company and follow UPS as they repair all their truck in house. Well, I know they use to.

Before 09 there were lots of different engines. Since 09 there have been several too.
Which diesels did Ford make and which diesels did Ford install in their trucks are entirely different questions. I can't tell if you haven't thought out your question, but you never even put a price point in your post. Google can be your friend to help you focus your questions.

The first diesel in a Ford pickup (in the US) was the 6.9L. It later grew to a 7.3L, but basically, it was the same engine. In 1994 it got a redesign, electronic controls, and a turbo and was called the Powerstroke. In 2003 that engine was replaced by the 6.0L Powerstroke. In 2008 it grew to a 6.4L. All of those engines were designed and manufactured by Navistar.

In the 2011 model year Ford introduced the 6.7L, which was designed and manufactured by Ford.

Yes, Thank you Deuce40. I was busy at my work desk and threw this question out there because I felt like being spoon fed!! Your right, Google is great. Now I believe since I want a reliable truck for short miles and not many a year I would get a 7.3 - maybe 98.
My 305 gas with 4 wheel and auto trans, air conditioning lacks the power I need. Pulling logs, trailers etc. I will wear out the tranny on the 305 1990 150.
Thank for setting me straight. Price point? I would like to get a vehicle that is not rusted up to the door handles like many in Wisconsin and less than 200K miles.

I’m in Wisconsin and I have a near rust free ‘03 250 SD. My tailgate has some rust on the lower seam as many do but it’s not readily noticeable. You can find a rust free truck up here if you look around but a friend of mine went on a vacation to Texas and he test drove many rust free trucks mid-state but he said many trucks down there a 2wd.

Ford has some smaller diesel engines. Many are used overseas. The talk is the F150 will use the 3.2l diesel as does the work van Ford has (do not remember the model name).

There were also some smaller 4 cylinder diesels Ford used in some car models years ago.

The coffee table books on this website gives some info about the diesels Ford has used.

Technically speaking, Ford only makes diesel engines in England. You know about the Navistar Powerstrokes, but how about the Dagenhams?

Ford makes the 6.7l Diesel in Mexico. I am not sure where the parts such as heads, crank or block are cast. It is assembled in Mexico and shipped to the KTP for insertion in the Excursions and SD trucks.

The Dagenhams are all designed and component-built at Ford-Dagenham, in England. Would make economic sense to outsource final assembly somewhere cheap.

And I guess it's nothing new to y'all that the GM Duramax is actually an Isuzu.
