Hey gang, new to the site here. I need help on my 2008 f-350 6.4 powerstroke I bought new. Anytime I hook up to a trailer, after a few miles my temp gauge spikes out & I go into limp mode, I can stay driving it & in a few minutes it clears. I can also pull over & kill the engine & restart & it’s normal for several miles. Until today on a long road trip with no trailer it acted up something fierce. It seems when it does this most of the time shortly after the cleaning exhaust comes on. Wanting to pull my travel trailer this year, but very afraid of the truck the way it acts. The truck is completely stock, any pointers or ideas would b great.
6.4L diesels are my LEAST favourite of the 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L engines Ford ran in their Super Duty lineup through the years. That said, my 6.4L "crystal ball" if you will, says your truck flagged either a P00B7 (Engine Coolant Flow Performance), P012F (Engine Coolant Temperature/Engine Oil Temperature Correlation), P2463 (DPF - Soot Accumulation) and P246C (DPF - Forced Power Limit) DTCs and/or a combination of all of the above by the symptoms you've described thus far. Post the DTCs your truck set before you decide the direction of where repairs are going to go.
