[QUOTE=Mr. Ed;17802761]A very long time ago, I read an article in a trade magazine that was directed at traveling salesmen. It told how to adjust your mirrors so there is no blind spot. Now let me caution you first that at first you will not like this but give it a chance and you will love it!
First, center your inside mirror so that you see the edges of the back window equally on the edges of your mirror. Now let's adjust the driver's mirror. Lean left until your head is just touching the glass. Now adjust your mirror until you see the road normally. To adjust the passenger mirror, lean to the right and adjust the mirror until you are looking at the road in a normal manner.
OK. Now sit in the seat and look out the mirrors. The right and left mirrors are now facing out farther than normal and all you see is the highway which is what you want. Now take the vehicle our for a drive and watch the traffic. What you will see is that the car that is coming up on your right or left is centered in the inside mirror and soon as it begin to disappear, look at the corresponding outside mirror and voila! There is the vehicle in what used to your blind spot. The way we were taught to adjust our outside mirrors gave us two views of the same traffic. Why would we want to have multiple views of the same traffic and also have a blind spot?
Like I said at the top of this post, you won't like the results, but give it few days and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
Later! The question no one is answering...Will peep mirror extensions give us the ADJUSTMENT FIX we are looking for ? They do not appear to have the adjustment range to really be helpful without some modified arms or inserts added . No one is saying whether or not THE EXTENSIONS actually help or just another $30 plus bux down the drain..I don't need a mirror to see 3 lanes over behind me. I have pretty good mirrors now. I wanted the PEEP mirrors to pinpoint where the corners of my rear bumper could come in contact with .Again ....do the extensions help you find tune the mirror , or is the arm already TOO STRAIGHT and needs curvature (?)..The other issue = not enough adjustment swivel with the swivel BALL
I bought peeps from macs antique auto, drove em for a while and then bough 4x4 inch (of 5x5 I forget) from autozone/advanced etc - just a common stainless steel replacement that fit the post/hole...cause you just can't trust em enough to put the $$$ of the truck on the line. When moving to TX, I lost one of the mirrors. It is on my agenda to get west coast jr mirrors - I haven't bothered cause in Austin I drove almost nothing (lived on FM420 - 65mph right out the driveway).
As for adjusting mirrors, I use the same techique as Indie described on my daily driver. My wife on the other hand like to view the quarter panels on her car, 50% of what she sees is quarter panel. I try to explain to her the quarter panels will always be there but she won't listen.
