I bought a pair of 4" peep mirrors for my 1950 F1, very nice but cannot get the passenger side to give me a view of the side of the truck, wrong position...maybe?
A very long time ago, I read an article in a trade magazine that was directed at traveling salesmen. It told how to adjust your mirrors so there is no blind spot. Now let me caution you first that at first you will not like this but give it a chance and you will love it!
First, center your inside mirror so that you see the edges of the back window equally on the edges of your mirror. Now let's adjust the driver's mirror. Lean left until your head is just touching the glass. Now adjust your mirror until you see the road normally. To adjust the passenger mirror, lean to the right and adjust the mirror until you are looking at the road in a normal manner.
OK. Now sit in the seat and look out the mirrors. The right and left mirrors are now facing out farther than normal and all you see is the highway which is what you want. Now take the vehicle our for a drive and watch the traffic. What you will see is that the car that is coming up on your right or left is centered in the inside mirror and soon as it begin to disappear, look at the corresponding outside mirror and voila! There is the vehicle in what used to your blind spot. The way we were taught to adjust our outside mirrors gave us two views of the same traffic. Why would we want to have multiple views of the same traffic and also have a blind spot?
Like I said at the top of this post, you won't like the results, but give it few days and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
Thank you Mr Ed. certainly will try that process, presently I have a house mirror clamped in an adjustable vise sitting on the dryer so that I can back out without doing damage. Phil PS Is there a way to increase the text size?
Some people don't feel comfortable with this method but give it a try.
Position your fender/door mirrors so that they cover the areas behind you that are not seen in your Cab mirrors. Example: If a car is in your blind spot, using your in cab mirror, adjust your fender mirror to see that vehicle. This really becomes effective on multi-lane roads. When using this method you should be able to cover all blind spots without turning your head to check for blind spots. This method was taught in a State Highway Patrol class on defensive driving.
I use the original style stock 6 inch mirrors that came on the 53 to 56 trucks. On both my trucks I stick those little convex mirrors in the corner of the mirror to help with blind spots and for parking and backing.
I know what you are talking about
. I have a peep mirror on both of my doors and have.the same issue on the passenger side. You can buy an extension for those peep mirrrors. I haven't don't it yet but was thinking that might fix the issue.
Thanks for sharing. I think I need to see an F1 with peep mirrors installed for a visual aid
Check the thread "Vent window delete" by Tomcat49. I posted pictures of my 48 F1 that show peep mirrors that have extenders. I purchased them from Speedway Motors.
