Why can't I order a 3.55 axle on my new 2018 F350 4x4 crew cab pickup with 18" wheels, without adding on the heavy duty front suspension package? I was told the ride is stiffer and it raises the front end up. I just pull a 5th wheel trailer; I do not want to put on a snow plow or anything on the front. It comes standard with the 3.31, but I was told the 3.55 would be better in our area and for the amount of time we pull a trailer.
Just went through this. I ordered last week. I went heavy service springs...was cheapest way and hoping to find the regular springs for cheap from someone that replaced with lift.
For 3.55 you need:
Heaven service springs
Camper package
Plow package
Or 20” wheels
Like i said my way was the least money and will see how bad they feel...but I’m coming from a front leaf (04 superduty) so might not be so bad.

If you get the heavy front springs for the 3.55 you could probably find the standard springs for very little from someone who lifted a truck.
Even if you bought a new pair of springs at the parts counter and paid to have them swapped in, it would probably still be way cheaper than the 20" option.

I'd also suggest considering the inexpensive camper package option ($160 MSRP) as a path towards being able to order the 3.55 axle. The F350 with 18" wheels already includes the five-leaf rear springs, so the CP only adds a rear sway bar and -- at most on the 4x4 -- "one-up" front springs.
I suspect you wouldn't notice the marginally stiffer front springs, especially with the heavy diesel engine.
Go camper package. I notice the lack of sway bar on my new one.
Im also in the "I tow heavy with 3.31s and it's fine" group but I wish I had the 3,55s.
I have the plow springs on my 250. I don't think they're real plow springs. They ride OK. Especially since they seem to be nicely matched to the rear springs. (maybe not on a 350) And they tow well. No porpoising. I'd give the HD, Camper, or Plow springs a fair chance. If you don't like them, it's a quick easy change.
Some of the 350 plow guys are running f550 springs.
I ordered the camper package, specifically to get the 3.55 ratio. I have plenty of front rake still. I don't think I'll ever have a truck without a rear sway bar.
