ok what have you guys found best to clean your wheels. ive never had this before on any vehicle but my rims seems to have a orangy rust TINGE to them. the front. im sure from brake dust but after brake dust gone over the years I know have this tinge...not sure what to use to get it off..... wheel cleaner and other things have not worked so far... any else run across this????
For the flat aluminum surfaces, some polishing compound and a buffer would probably do it. I don't know about the painted recesses. Maybe try a little acetone in a small spot to see if it does any good without eating the clear coat. The next step hotter than acetone is lacquer thinner, but be careful...
You might try a clay bar on them. Those are the same wheels that are on my STX, but I've never had that problem, so I don't know if the clay bar will work, but it's supposed to be able to remove surface contaminants. As I recall, it's cheap enough and readily available at your local auto parts store or WalMart.
When I was just a young man, I had a 1984 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I let the front brakes wear out to the point the pads were gone and the rotors got scored. This caused fine metal particles to cover the locking wire wheel covers that vehicle had. Both front wheels looked orange like that. It was difficult to clean off; as it was fine metal particles attached to the chrome that then rusted. I'm guessing you may have front brake pads with metal particles in the brake dust. Maybe once you get them clean, a coat of wax will help the dust not stick. Hope it cleans up easily.
