I am trying to get my truck back on the road
I just did a bunch of work including a new ignition switch and it was running good in till the starter solenoid failed I replaced it
now it will crank over and start but will die as soon as I let go of the key
Might be a bad new ignition switch. How did the solenoid fail? Did it stick closed with the starter 'running away?'
Do you have a ground-strap wire from your engine block to the firewall of the cab?
it ran fine after installing switch
the selonid stopped sending power to the starter
I have a ground wire from the block to cab and an extra from starter to frame
Do you have a good test light? Simple to trace out circuits with and an exercise in frustration without. 2 feeds to the coil+, one is full 12 volts from the starter relay during cranking and the other is the "run" position through the resistor wire from the switch. It sounds like you have lost power through the "run" circuit.

I will try to do some tests when I get home from work tonight (weather permitting)
Does anyone have a wiring diagram of this circuit
I am wondering if some of the wiring repairs the PO did failed,
Thanks for the ideas problem temporally fixed
I need to find the part number for the connector that plugs into the ignition switch
Now I seem to have developed a wiring problem somewhat in the dash I have smoke coming out of the dash when the ignition is on ( battery is currently disconnected in till I take the dash apart)
