Hello. I seem to have found the limitation of my usual forum, and so I came here looking for answers.
I'm looking for main bearings for a 1975 inline 300 block. The size is standard. When I looked on Rockauto, I found they show two diff. flange sizes: 3.5670 diameter, and 3.602 od. That is .035" diff., same year, all standard. Does anyone know why? or what they are referring to with 'flange?'
The larger diameter is the outer diameter as it states. The other is the inside diameter, the crank journal should be a few thousandths smaller still. Measure the diameter of the crank journal and the diameter of the circle the bearing shells fit into with the main caps installed and torqued to spec. This will tell you if these are the correct bearings for your engine
