In my 1989 F350, I have a E4OD gearbox, I like to change the oil, and found an oil to this specification, could that be a good oil to use?
Ford Mercon/M2C138-CJ/166-H
And is it correct that the same oil goes in the transfercase?
When the E4OD was designed that was the fluid specification. Ford discontinued this spec in 2006 and changed MERCON V to be compatible with the E4OD and other transmissions that used MERCON. MERCON V is now specified for the E4OD.
*IF* that fluid meets that spec then it's fine to use it. However, MERCON V is a better fluid and I recommend using it.
