Main cause?

only problem we notice is oil in coolant. No puking out of degas bottle. Egr deleted , oil cooler replaced last year. Could bad injectors or cup cause this? 2004 6.0. Just looking for some ideas guys, thanks

Has the coolant begun to turn to a pudding consistency? If it is oil in the coolant, it is most likely the oil cooler again.

I'm not working on it. My nephew is. He said they had it pressure tested? Can you pressure test an oil cooler? He know how to wrench well just not a 6.0 guru so I figured I'd ask here.

why did you conclude that there was oil in the coolant? please describe what you saw (that is why I asked about "pudding").

There was brownish coolant, it wasn't real thick or anything like pudding. Just discolored coolant

The reason I asked is sometimes it is fuel in the coolant that is mistaken for oil (if it is a small amount). Sometimes it is carbon from combustion gasses/etc leaking into the coolant. If the coolant was uniformly colored with no floating layer, I would question whether or not it is oil, or fuel for that matter.

I really do not know how the mechanic pressure tested the oil cooler, hadn't heard of that approach.

The only advice I would have is to look very, very closely and know for sure what is contaminating the coolant.

I'd flush it with Cascade and hose water, then distilled. Run it if you you can and check for oil BEFORE you do the antifreeze. It going to be a long job. I'd start early in the morning. You might not be done till late at night. Also don't leave straight water in it over night even if it inside. It will promote rust.

after speaking with him tonight the coolant was thicker like pudding.
The engine is out of the truck now. They're guessing at this point, I've gave your input on the issues . Thank you all. His boss had him take it out this afternoon.

It still sounds like a failed oil cooler again. I wish you would find out more about this pressure test!

supposedly a piece of rubber and a c clamp on the 2 holes and somehow blocked it all off and pressurized it and heated with a torch. Lol I'm dead serious this is what they did. It held 80psi for 2 hours.

Some aftermarket Oil cooler gaskets are known to fail after a year or so .... leaking oil into coolant or vice versa.

I don't understand how the coolant system could hold 80 psi if there was a leak between the coolant and oil system. The only thing I could imagine is if the gasket failure was in such a way that it acted as a check valve going from coolant to oil, but did not restrict the flow from oil to coolant.

If the oil cooler gaskets are failing, you'll see pieces of them on your IPR screen. Pull the IPR and take a look at the screen.
